Biographical SketchRabbi, civil rights activist, and prison chaplain, Mantinband was born in New York City, April 2, 1895. He was ordained at the Jewish Institute of Religion and attended Columbia University and the City College of New York. The bulk of his rabbinical career was spent in the south where he was active in the civil rights movement. Mantinband died in 1974. Scope and Content NotePapers consist of correspondence, sermons, a scrapbook of newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous items pertaining to Mantinband's career and his interest in southern Jewry.
