Biographical SketchDavid M. Zielonka was born in 1935. The son of David L. Zielonka, he was a third generation rabbi, ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1962. He served at a variety of Reform congregations during his career. He started with student placements at Congregation Ohev Shalom in Huntington, West Virginia and Congregation Emanuel in Welch, West Virginia. He then took his first rabbinical post at Valley Temple in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served from 1964-1968. After spending five years at Temple B’nai Israel in Elmira, N.Y., he moved to Temple Covenant of Peace in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1973. He also served as rabbi at Temple Emanuel in Gastonia, N.C. He taught ethics at the Carolinas College of Health Sciences from 2000 until his death in 2003. Scope and Content NoteThis collection consists of sermons and services given by Rabbi David M. Zielonka at a variety of rabbinical posts throughout his career. Included are many holiday sermons: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Hanukkah, as well as weekly sermons. The bulk of sermons are from his early career from 1958 until 1971. The original manuscript collection is available in the Barrows-Loebelson Reading Room of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.
