The Highest Award for Bravery
Approximately 8,000-10,000 Jews fought for the Union during the American Civil War (out of a population of roughly 150,000). Six of these soldiers were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, including Private David Urbansky of Cincinnati, Ohio. Urbansky served with Company B - the 58th Ohio Volunteers. He was awarded the medal for gallantry at Shiloh and Vicksburg.
