A Rabbinic Student Goes to War
In 1917 Jacob Rader Marcus (1896-1995), then rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College, enlisted in the Ohio National Guard. He served in the army until early 1919 when he returned to Cincinnati and resumed his studies. Marcus kept an extensive diary of his army life, beginning at a training base in Alabama and continuing through his service with the American Expeditionary Forces in France.
