New Years Greetings from the Front

In order to save space to transport vital military supplies, an ingenious method was developed in 1942 to ensure that American soldiers received regular mail (an absolute necessity for maintaining morale). Letters written to soldiers were microfilmed prior to being sent overseas. Once the film arrived it would then be printed from the microfilm format. Mail from overseas could also be shipped back to the U.S. in the same manner. The system was called V-Mail. These letters were from soldiers serving in the Pacific Theater.
