NCJW: Aiding Immigrants
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) was established in 1893, and it is the oldest Jewish volunteer organization in the U.S. Like many Jewish organizations the NCJW was active in assisting new immigrants. This 1906 photo shows a group of NCJW volunteers from the organizations Port and Dock Department (founded 1903) visiting a group of new immigrants in their Manhattan tenement.
