The Echo, November, 1972, vol.XCV, no.3
United Order of True Sister (UOTS)
Founded in 1846, the United Order of True Sisters (UOTS) was inspired by the development of the Independent Order of B'nai B'rith (1843) and used the model of this fraternal organization to create a way for Jewish women to enter the public sphere and redefine their new role in both contemporary Judaism and American society. The UOTS promoted their philanthropic activities in their publication, The Echo, and today refers to itself as "the quiet charity."
