Helena Rubinstein (1870-1965)
Helena Rubinstein: A Day of Beauty
Coming to America via Australia and Paris, Helena Rubinstein (1870-1965) helped revolutionize the skin care industry. Combining herb based products with effective advertising and scientific research, Rubinstein's products were sold in salons from New York to Hollywood. Among her most famous clients was the movie star Theda Bara, whom she taught how to use mascara and thus contributed to the development of the "vamp" image. Rubinstein's "A Day of Beauty" became popular all over the world. In addition to her beauty business Rubinstein was active in promoting women's health, especially anti-smoking and physical exercise campaigns.
