Eisenhower views atrocities

This photograph, taken on April 12, 1945 at the German concentration camp of Ohrdruf Nord outside the town of Gotha in central Germany, shows Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) examining the remains of some of the camp's prisoners. Also present during the tour of the camp were Generals George S. Patton (1885-1945) Commander of the 3rd Army, Omar K. Bradley (1893-1981) Commander of the 12th Army group, and Manton Eddy (1892-1962) Commander of the 12th Corps. Ohrdruf Nord served as a camp for military and political prisoners, and was not an extermination camp. Nonetheless, the crimes and atrocities committed there were enough to reportedly make General Patton physically sick, while General Eisenhower later acknowledged similar feelings.
