A Noble Jewess (1829-1888)
Theresa Bamberger
The Bamberger family was well known amongst Jews and non-Jews alike in the two cities where they settled, New York and Denver. Kind, welcoming, knowledgeable, and well-traveled, they brought a sense of culture to their communities. The non-Jewish population only spoke of Theresa and Leopold Bamberger in the highest regards - they were respected for their Jewish values and lifestyle and appreciated for their involvement in improving the lives of their fellow citizens. As shown in this 1888 newspaper article from the Denver World, Theresa Bamberger made "Israelite mother" into a term of respect and dignity.
