Mitchell Siporin, A Yiddish Artist
Mitchell Siporin (1910-1976) was raised in a Jewish family in Chicago, in which he was exposed to great Yiddish and Hebrew literary works. He studied art in school and later became an artist. He drew upon his Jewish upbringing and the depression era to influence his work, producing scenes of hope that depicted a better life for the next generation. Today, Siporin's works are displayed in some of the top art museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
