Ku Klux Klan Harassment
During the civil rights movement of the 1960s, the Ku Klux Klan actively opposed desegregation and equal rights. They often used hate speech and violence to express their disdain. Rabbi Julian B. Feibelman (1915-1994), as a representative of the New Orleans Jewish community and rabbi of Temple Sinai, supported both desegregation and equal rights. As this article states, he led a group of petitioners before the school board to make the case for immediate integration of public schools in accordance with the constitution of the U.S. In addition, he was also an activist in interfaith movements. For his outspoken campaigning for these causes, he was a central target of hate speech from the KKK.
