Publications of the American Jewish Archives

The publications program of the American Jewish Archives has had a long and distinguished history. The mission of the AJA is to serve not only as a repository of source material, but also as a research center and an agency for the dissemination of scientific data on the history of the American Jewish experience. This goal is primarily achieved through our semi-annual periodical, The American Jewish Archives Journal, which has been in continuous publication since 1948 and is now available for free on our website. Since the early 1950s, the AJA has also published a soft-cover monograph series as well as a number of hard cover publications, including two commemorative volumes (festschriften). The AJA has also issued a number of brochures of a programmatic rather than strictly scholarly character touching on various aspects of American Jewish history such as Dr. Marcus' "How to Write the History of an American Jewish Community" (1953); "The Jews of Ohio" (1953); and "Your Congregational Archives" (1961). We are working to make many of these publications digitally available through our website.

If you have a question regarding the AJA’s publications, please contact Dr. Dana Herman, Managing Editor.
